GLATIRAMER ACETATE

Pharmacological action

Immunomodulator. It is a mixture of synthetic polypeptides formed by amino acids: L-glutamine, L-alanine, L-tyrosine and L-lysine. Copolymers of these amino acids have structural similarity to myelin basic protein - the main component of myelin sheaths, which are destroyed in multiple sclerosis. Modifies the immune response and effect on immunocompetent cells.

Competes with myelin proteins and myelin and glycoprotein oligodendrotsitarnym proteolipidnym protein for binding with molecules of the main histocompatibility complex class II on the surface of cells bearing the antigens.

It stimulates the formation of antigen T-lymphocytes. Blocks mielinspetsificheskie autoimmune response, causing the destruction of myelin sheaths of nerve fibers (demyelination) in multiple sclerosis. When treating patients with multiple sclerosis remittent flow reduces the frequency of relapses and slows the onset of irreversible neurological disorders.

Pharmacokinetics

After sc administration of locally hydrolyzed much of glatiramer acetate. Some of the active substance penetrates into the lymphatic system and the small amount goes into the systemic circulation unchanged.

Statement

It is not known whether glatiramer acetate is allocated with breast milk, so if you need to use during lactation should stop breastfeeding.

In experimental studies found no mutagenic effects of glatiramer acetate and its negative impact on the reproductive system, the development of the embryo and the process of childbirth.
